The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA)’s T20 League has been postponed till September due to ongoing monsoon that led to cancellation of many matches, a top official from the League committee has confirmed.

“We have decided to postpone the league with immediate effect as the rains were forcing us to abandon many matches,” said Ahmad Tameem, the Co-Chairman of the League Committee.

Out of the 280 matches that were put on schedule and supposed to happen by now, 220 have taken place. As many as 60 matches were washed due to rains, according to Tameem.

The DDCA has to conduct 535 matches in all in the season.

In the previous round of matches, played on July 11, as many as nine out of 14 matches were washed out.

“We now have 310 matches to complete. We will reschedule the 60 abandoned matches too. We will hold those matches in September once the skies clear up. Even if the remaining matches clash with DPL, we will go ahead as these are two separate tournaments. While the DPL will be held at the Kotla, we will hold the DDCA T20 League matches in other grounds,” added Tameem.

The DPL looks likely to start in the first week of August. It was expected to start by July 26 or 27 but has been postponed by at least a week, it has been learnt.

The scheduling of the DDCA T20 League has received a lot of flak from coaches who complained that the performance from current T20 season could not be taken into account in the DPL auction. The T20 performance from last season, 2023-24, was considered.

The DDCA President Rohan Jaitley acknowledged the problem in a press conference held on the sidelines of DPL auction, saying that they will hold the T20 League prior to the DDCA Open League (40 overs) from next season.
