Sweet homecoming for Tapendra Ghai at Qutab Golf Course

The Gurgaon golfer Ghai (64-67-62-70), who developed an interest in the sport at the Qutab Golf Course at the age of 10, led by four shots overnight and had to stave off some amount of pressure as he set out to win his first title since 2018

It was a sweet return for Tapendra Ghai to New Delhi's Qutab Golf Course, where he first picked up the golf club as a 10-year-old thanks to his father. The 29-year-old carded an even-par 70 on the final day of the Rs 1 crore Calance Open 2025 to end his long wait for his second title.

The Gurgaon golfer Ghai (64-67-62-70) led by four shots overnight and had to stave off some amount of pressure as he set out to win his first title since 2018. He ended with a with a total of 17-under 263 to prevail by one shot. His steady last round featured three birdies and three bogeys.

Ghai’s win saw him pick up the winning cheque worth Rs 15 lakh that lifted him from 53rd to 15th position in the PGTI Order of Merit.

"I started my golf at Qutab Golf Course, not many people know that. My dad introduced me to this game and since then I have been in love with this game," Ghai told www.thedelhijunction.com after winning the title on Friday.

"I started playing when I was 10," said the player who turned pro in 2017.

"This is my second win, so it is special."

Ghai said that he practices for five hours a day.

"Usually I practice for five hours a day. I do my workouts in the morning. After that I am practicing, stretching. I spend five hours a day. Golf is my No. 1 interest. I also listen to music, go around and travel around the world."

He said that on Friday, he just went along with the game. 

Delhi-based Arjun Prasad (67-68-67-62) shot the lowest score of the final day, carding eight-under 62, to rise 10 places and finish as the joint runner-up at 16-under 264. Arjun won a cheque of Rs 7.99 lakh. The latest earning pushes him up from sixth to second position in the PGTI (Professional Golfers Tour of India) Order of Merit.

Prasad’s season earnings now stand at a toal of Rs 46,57,749. Prasad, who has posted five top-10s this season, trails the PGTI Ranking leader Joshua Berry of England by over Rs 7.5 lakh.

Honey Baisoya (64-68-65-67) of Delhi returned 67 in Round 4 to also end the week as the joint runner-up at 16-under 264.

Kshitij Naveed Kaul, another Delhi-based professional who set the course record of 60 earlier in the week, carded 64 on Friday to secure fourth place at 15-under 265.
