17 Delhi Metro Stations shut amid security measures, commuters face long delays
The closures led to significant inconvenience for commuters, many of whom were forced to seek alternate modes of transport; however, some have offered to pay students cab fare

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday closed 17 Metro stations across the national capital until further orders, causing widespread inconvenience to commuters and disrupting travel on several key corridors. The decision comes in the wake of large-scale protest at Jantar Mantar led by Cockroach Janta Party.
In a post on X, the DMRC said the stations had been closed on the directions of security agencies. However, it clarified that interchange facilities would continue to remain available at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat stations.
"Below mentioned Metro stations have been closed till further instructions. However, Interchange facility shall remain available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat," it wrote on X. "Due to security reasons Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk and Central Secretariat metro stations have been closed till further instructions. Interchange facility is available at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat."
The stations affected are Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Jhandewalan Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh and Shivaji Stadium.
The closures led to significant inconvenience for commuters, many of whom were forced to seek alternate modes of transport, mostly expensive, after finding stations shut.
"I have to go to Rohini. I came to Patel Chowk Metro but it was closed. I took an auto to come here (Central Secretariat) but it is also closed. We are facing trouble every day," commuter Rajiv Chopra told PTI outside the Central Secretariat Metro station.
The station closures came amid heightened security arrangements in central Delhi as police restricted access to several areas during protests in the city. Authorities did not specify when normal Metro services at the affected stations would resume, with the DMRC stating that the closures would remain in force until further instructions.
However, there have also been offers to pay cab fare for students wanting to go to the protest.
"In case you are a student who would have used the metro to get to jantar mantar, you can instead book a cab/auto and get there. DM me for my UPI id and I’ll pay the cab/auto fare happily," wrote Rikit (@chotesarcar) on X.
The DMRC, however, announced later in the day that it had opened all the stations for metro services.
