Ayush Doseja's big ton in vain as Gagan Vats drives Carpediem India home

The 22-year-old Ayush Doseja continues his strong run in local cricket as he hammers 157 not out in the final of BR Sharma Champions Trophy, but Gagan Vats's 109 off 71 balls takes Carpediem India to the title

Ayush Doseja continued his great form as he struck another century on return from injury, this time in the 8th Carpediem BR Sharma Champions Trophy 2024-25. But he couldn't protect his team Ravindra Yorks Academy from losing the final to Carpediem India in a last-ball thriller at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Ghaziabad.

The left-handed batsman was initially scheduled to represent Ravi Brothers but somehow couldn't. He was then called up by Yorks Ravindra for the final and made immediate impression.

With his team in dire straits at 75/5 in the 13th over, he hammered 157 not out off 93 balls (15x4s, 6x6s) to take the team to a strong 311/9 in the allotted 40 overs. Mohit Panwar chipped in 43 off 37 balls (14x, 4x6s).

"The ball was spinning, it was a dry pitch. When the pitch got better, we managed to score 311."

This was his sixth century in the last nine matches, ever since he returned from injury.

He has made three tons in Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) League, one in Laxman Dass Memorial Cricket Tournament, one in another tournament before this one in the ongoing tournament.

"I was timing the ball, hitting it over mid-off and cover. In the end, after reaching the century, I hit sixes after stepping out including slog over the mid-wicket," said Doseja.

The innings may have helped Yorks Ravindra to a strong total but it didn't prove enough. Vishal Chaudhary took 4/28 for Carpediem India.

Gagan Vats scored 109 off 71 balls (13x4s, 6x6s) to as he guided Carpediem India to the target. Ritik Vats chipped in with 60 off 34 balls (8x4s, 1x6).

Carpediem won the match by one wicket, reaching 315/9 on the last delivery with Yash Garg remaining unbeaten on 37 off 32 balls. Rajneesh Dadar picked 3/58 for the losers Yorks Ravindra.

Gagan Vats was adjudged Player of the Match while Doseja got picked as the Fighter of the Match.
