DDCA elections: Sangeeta Jaitley checks in as current dispensation seeks to retain power

Sangeeta Jaitley, the wife of former Union minister and DDCA President Arun Jaitley and mother of current Delhi cricket chief Rohan, has put her name in the fight for President's post and will contest against Kirti Azad in case son Rohan gets elected to BCCI secretary's post

In what could be deemed as a decision to safeguard the President’s post at the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) with the current dispensation, the last day of nomination on Tuesday found former India cricketer Kirti Azad pitted against two members of the Jaitley family.

The current President of DDCA, Rohan Jaitley, and his mother Sangeeta, the wife of the late Union minister and former DDCA President Arun Jaitley, have put in their names for election to the President’s post.

This nomination of both the Jaitleys has seemingly been pushed by the current regime due to Jaitley’s chances of becoming secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

It should be noted that the post of BCCI secretary will be vacated once Jay Shah joins International Cricket Council (ICC) as Chairman on December 1. His replacement will have to be selected prior to that.

Jaitley is reportedly pitted against Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel for the BCCI post.

The dates for withdrawal of nominations in the DDCA elections have been set as December 2 and 3 with the time between 11 am and 4 pm.

It will be known clearly prior to December 3 whether Jaitley Jr makes it to BCCI or not. If he does, then the elections set for December 13, 14, and 15 will see Sangeeta fighting for President’s post against Azad as Jaitley will withdraw.

“If he doesn’t get elected to BCCI, then Sangeeta will in all likelihood pull out,” said a DDCA member.

The fight for Vice-President’s post involves 16 contenders with veteran administrator CK Khanna’s daughter Shikha Kumar also stepping in the fight. It should be noted that Khanna’s wife Shashi is the outgoing President and has crossed the age limit. Earlier, Khanna had served as DDCA VP for a very long time and was also the BCCI President for quite a long period.

There are 11 contenders for the post of DDCA Secretary, and 22 contenders for the post of DDCA Joint Secretary.

As many as 18 people have filed nomination for the treasurer’s post.

Altogether 50 candidates are fighting for post of Directors.

It should be noted that there are several candidates fighting for more than one post. For example, Shikha is fighting for the post of VP and Joint Secretary; Pawan Gulati, who is the current treasurer, is fighting for the post of VP, Joint Secretary, and Treasurer. Shyam Sharma, who is currently a Director, has filed his name for five posts – VP, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer, and Director.
