Bengal defeated Delhi in the first Group E match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

The match played on Saturday saw Delhi cricket team scoring 272/7 in 50 overs with in-form Anuj Rawat top-scoring with 79 not out off 66 balls. Himmat Singh made 60 off 57 balls while Vaibhav Kandpal (47 off 67) and Ayiush Badoni (41 off 56) also chipped in for the losers.

Delhi lost Priyansh Arya and Yash Dhull early before a 70-run partnership between Badoni and Kandpal brought stability. They took 14.4 overs for the partnership.

Three quick wickets saw Delhi get reduced to 127/5 in 31.3 overs before a 101-run partnership between Himmat and Rawat brought them back.

The Delhi bowlers couldn’t get past wicketkeeper-batsman Abhishek Porel who single-handedly took his team to victory with unbeaten 170 off 130 balls (18x4s, 7x6s).

Anustup Majumdar was the next best scorer with 37.

Ayush Badoni took 2/44 to be the pick of the bowlers.

Madhya Pradesh and Baroda were the other teams to win their matches in the Group. Tripura and Bihar are the other teams in the group and like Delhi they lost their opening matches.

Delhi are placed fourth after one match.
