Delhi stare at defeat against Chandigarh in Ranji Trophy

Delhi are staring at an outright defeat against unfancied Chandigarh in their fourth Ranji Trophy match of the season being played at the Govt Model Senior Secondary School in Chandigarh.

The home team, led by Manan Vohra, were 46 without loss on Friday, the third day, while chasing a target of 203 runs.

The Delhi cricket team, who trailed by 16 runs when they began the day, were looking good enough to set a strong target.

After Anuj Rawat (20) was dismissed, Sanat Sangwan (70) added 96 with Yash Dhull (58) for the second wicket as Delhi moved to 90-run lead with nine wickets in hand. What followed was complete mess.

From 138/1, Delhi became 204/8, losing seven wickets for 66 runs. Skipper Himmat Singh scored 26.

However, the lack of depth in Delhi batting showed quite clearly. Badoni failed, scoring one. Kshitiz Sharma, who was drafted in place of Jonty Sidhu, made 11, Sumit Mathur 10 and Siddhant Sharma 15.

Hrithik Shokeen provided some late boost with 33 off 44 balls as the team ended their second innings on 250, a lead of 202 runs.

Left-arm spinner Nishunk Birla took 6/65 to be the pick of the bowlers. He had taken 6/72 in the first innings. He has returned match figures of 12/137

Delhi now face an uphill. A loss would really hurt their chances of advancing into the next round.
