Rain has hampered the Delhi and District Cricket Association’s (DDCA) selection process of the state’s under-19 squad that will begin their season campaign in the first week of October with the limited-overs tournament for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy.
The entire last week has been washed out with as many as eight matches a day being abandoned.
“We are facing heavy rainfall and that has hampered the selection for the under-19 team. We are waiting for the skies to clear up. We are confident that we can complete the process before the team departs. All we need is a week to 10 days of clear skies,” said a DDCA official concerned with the selection.
As per the process, the DDCA invites 80 clubs to field their teams for the trials. From that, as many as 150-160 players are selected (including about 60 bowlers and 60 batsmen).
Following that, two-day games for trials will be conducted. Around 60 players will be picked from there and handed over to the selectors to pick the final squad.
The problem is that the initial stage of the selection from the teams of the 80 clubs itself is stuck and hasn’t been completed.
The DDCA will also have to complete the 2023-24 season’s DDCA T20 league. The matches have been pending since before the Delhi Premier League.
