The return of senior players seems to have augured well for the Delhi team as they registered their second victory of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, beating Saurashtra on Sunday by 10 runs to move into third place in Elite Group D.

Delhi skipper Nitish Rana (in pic), who walked into bat at No.3, scored 76 off 41 balls (3x4s, 7x6s) as he led his team to an imposing 207/4. Yash Dhull made 47 off 30 balls while Ayush Badoni scored 33 off 25 balls.

Priyansh Arya, who scored a blistering 35 off 15 balls in the previous game against Tamil Nadu that Delhi won on the last ball, could make only 10 off 10 balls.

Himmat Singh hit 18 off six balls while Anuj Rawat made 17 off eight balls.

The Delhi bowling line-up had a surprise inclusion. Spinner Digvesh Rathi, who was initially not included in the Delhi T20 squad, was brought in for this game.

Rathi’s exclusion was blamed for his tiff with Rana in a Delhi Premier League game.

According to officials, Rathi was brought in after coach Sarandeep Singh and captain Nitish Rana voiced concerns over injury to Suyash Sharma.

But to everyone’s surprise, it was not just Rathi who made an appearance Delhi in Ahmedabad on Sunday but Suyash too.

Rathi took the new ball and returned with 1/31 while Suyash picked 3/20.

In fact, they were the most economical bowlers and were the only wicket-takers for Delhi.

Saurashtra finished with 197/5. Prerak Mankad top-scored with 50 off 28 balls.
