Engineering HQ retains title at Northern Railway Inter-Departmental Cricket Tournament

Engineering HQ clinch back-to-back titles defeating Commercial in the T20 tournament final held at Karnail Singh Stadium. Four centuries lit up the event, with Mohit Kumar named Best Batsman and Man of the Series

New Delhi: The second Inter-Departmental HQ Cricket Tournament of Northern Railway concluded on a high note at the Karnail Singh Railway Stadium, where 15 departments competed in an exciting T20-format championship held from April 13 to April 24, 2026.

The tournament witnessed intense competition, impressive individual performances, and strong team spirit throughout its duration. In the final match, the Engineering Headquarters team emerged victorious, defeating the HQ Commercial team to clinch the title by six wickets. This triumph marked a significant achievement for Engineering HQ, as they successfully defended their championship and registered their second consecutive tournament win.

One of the highlights of this year’s tournament was the remarkable batting display, with four centuries recorded. Gopal Halen from the Construction department scored the first century of the tournament, setting the tone for high-scoring encounters. He was followed by Ravinder (Ravi) from Engineering HQ, who delivered a crucial century for his team. Brijesh Pandey added to the tally with another impressive hundred, while Mohit Kumar of Commercial capped off the list with a brilliant century, underlining his consistent form.

Mohit Kumar’s outstanding performance earned him multiple accolades. He was declared the Best Batsman of the tournament and also received the prestigious Man of the Series award for his all-round contribution. On the bowling front, Shubham Sharma stood out with his exceptional performance and was awarded the Best Bowler title.

The tournament was officiated by an experienced panel of umpires, ensuring fairness and professionalism in all matches. The umpiring team included Karan Thakur, a BCCI umpire and former Ranji Trophy player, Neeraj Sharma, a DDCA State Panel and RSPB Panel umpire, and Narain Ji Gupta from the UPCA Panel. Their expertise contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of the tournament.

The scoring responsibilities were efficiently handled by Rajesh Gotwal and Rahul Saraswal, whose accurate and timely records supported the organisation of the matches.

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Rajeev Kumar, PCSTE/NR and President of NRSA, along with Yashvir Singh Guleria, Honorary General Secretary of NRSA and CSTE/P/East. They congratulated all participating teams and praised the high standard of cricket displayed during the tournament.

The successful organisation of the event was made possible with the support of several distinguished sports personalities and officials, including Dhanchand Awardee and OSD Sports Anil Maan, Dronacharya Awardee and OSD Sports Jaidev Bist, Padma Shri awardee and OSD Sports Sakshi Malik, as well as Jitender Tanwar, Mukesh Kumar, Versha Rephal, and Umesh.

Overall, the tournament not only showcased cricketing talent within Northern Railway but also strengthened camaraderie among departments, making it a memorable sporting event.
