New Delhi: Former Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) joint secretary Rajan Manchanda has urged the association to implement its long-pending decision to name one of the stadium stands after former India opener and administrator Late Chetan Chauhan, describing it as a fitting tribute to one of Delhi cricket's most distinguished personalities.
In a letter addressed to the DDCA President and Secretary on July 28, Manchanda said the proposal had already been approved in two separate Apex Council meetings but was yet to be implemented despite the passage of considerable time.
Calling Chauhan an accomplished cricketer, administrator and mentor, Manchanda said his contribution to Delhi and Indian cricket extended well beyond his achievements on the field and that honouring him would inspire future generations of cricketers.
"It is pertinent to mention that the proposal to name a stand in his honour was duly considered and approved in two separate Apex Council meetings. However, despite the passage of considerable time and the approval of the competent authority, the proposal is yet to be implemented," Manchanda wrote.
He requested the DDCA to organise the naming ceremony, preferably on the occasion of the opening match of the Delhi Premier League (DPL), or on any other suitable date decided by the association. He also appealed to members of the Apex Council to extend their support so that the already-approved proposal could finally be implemented.
Chetan Chauhan was a former India Test team opener
Manchanda further said that he has been assured by DDCA President Rohan Jaitley that a stadium stand would be named after Chetan Chauhan during the midway stage of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026 next month.
According to the letter, naming a stand after Chauhan would serve as a lasting tribute to a stalwart whose association with the DDCA and Indian cricket continues to be held in the highest regard, while reaffirming the association's commitment to recognising those who have made exceptional contributions to the game.
