New Delhi: The three-day international Ghalib festival organised by the Ghalib Institute, which began on December 26, concluded on December 28.
Three sessions of the three-day international seminar ‘Munshi Premchand: Mind, Times and Art’ were held as part of the celebrations.
The first session was chaired by Amir Mehdi. During his presidential address, he said that not all those who have read and wrote about Premchand are worthy of being considered authentic.
These seminars are held to ensure that the useful and the useless can be separated. In this session, Maqsood Danish presented papers on ‘Some aspects of Premchand’s narrative’, Fawzan Ahmed presented papers on ‘Premchand’s knowledge in Arabic’, Nazeer Ansari presented papers on ‘Munshi Premchand: Mind, Times and Art’, and Shahid Jamal presented papers on ‘Premchand’s Concept of Revolution’.
The session was moderated by Shadab Shamim. The second session was chaired by Professor Mazhar Mehdi. In his presidential address, he said that repetition is not necessarily a bad thing.
"If a scientist makes a discovery and another scientist also comes to the same conclusion after an experiment, then it is not repetition. Repetition occurs when something is repeated without experiment," he said.
In this session, Professor Muhammad Kazim presented papers on the art of Urdu drama and Premchand's plays and translations, Muhammad Mushtaq Tijarvi on 'Premchand and Jamia Millia Islamia', Prabharat Ranjan on 'Premchand's farmer in today's Sundarbh' and Faizullah Khan on 'Premchand's knowledge of French'.
This session was moderated by Abdul Razaq Ziyad. The third session was chaired by Professor Khwaja Muhammad Ikramuddin and Mahiya Abdur Rehman. Professor Khwaja Muhammad Ikramuddin said.
When foreign people read Premchand, not only language is a barrier but the difference in civilisation is a bigger barrier. They also study civilisation along with the original text.
Similarly, the importance of Premchand's study is very special. In this session, Professor Sagheer Afrahim presented a paper titled 'Premchand Criticism from 1975 to 2025', Amir Mehdi presented a paper titled 'Munshi Premchand: Mind, Times and Art', Jitendra Srivastav presented a paper titled 'Ram Vilas Premchand's Alochak' and Sabahat Yorova presented a paper titled 'Nirmala's Character Commentary'.
The session was moderated by Nadeem Ahmed. The concluding session was chaired by Amir Mehdi and delivered speeches by Abdul Rehman, Khalid Alvi, Professor Anwar Pasha, Jitendra Srivastav and Professor Sarwar Aldi.
Idrees Ahmed, Director of Ghalib Institute, thanked all the essayists, speakers, moderators and participants. After the concluding session, the play 'Ghalib Ki Wapsi' written by AM Kardar was presented under the direction of Abbas Haider Naqvi.
