Irani Cup: Gaikwad to lead RoI; Jurel, Dayal, Sarfaraz may play

The match between Rest of India and Mumbai may witness the inclusion of Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal (for RoI) and Sarfaraz Khan (for Mumbai) if they are not picked for the India team

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been picked as the skipper of the Rest of India (RoI) squad for the upcoming Irani Cup that will be played against Mumbai in Lucknow from October 1 to 5.

Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal for RoI as well as Sarfaraz Khan for Mumbai have been picked for the match even though they are part of the India squad that will play the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur from August 27.

“Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal have been selected in the Rest of India squad and their participation is subject to them not being involved in the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur. The 2nd Test will begin from 27th September,” said a statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

“Sarfaraz Khan who has been retained in the Team India squad for the 2nd Test, will be released to represent the Mumbai team subject to him not being involved in the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur,” the statement added.

The match will be played at Lucknow’s Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

Ajinkya Rahan is likely to lead Mumbai.

Rest of India squad: Ruturaj Gaikwad (C), Abhimanyu Easwaran (VC), Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel (WK)*, Ishan Kishan (WK), Manav Suthar, Saransh Jain, Prasidh Krishna, Mukesh Kumar, Yash Dayal*, Ricky Bhui, Shashwat Rawat, Khaleel Ahmed, Rahul Chahar.
