Ishant Sharma to miss entire DPL due to 'injury concern'

The India bowler, who has played 105 Test matches, has not played a single game for his franchise in the Delhi Premier League so far and will likely miss the rest of the tournament

India pace bowler Ishant Sharma, who is part of the Purani Dilli 6 squad at the Delhi Premier League T20, will likely remain on the bench throughout the tournament due to an injury concern.

The tall fast bowler, who has played 105 Test matches for India and also donned India colours in 80 ODIs and 14 T20 Internationals, has been seen giving advice to players during strategic time-out periods. However, he is yet to show up on the field.

“Ishant Sharma’s guidance is available to us, he is helping us a lot. He has an injury problem which is why he is not playing. I don’t think [he will play any game],” said Aayush Singh, the Dilli 6 fast bowler after his four-wicket haul in the match against West Delhi Lions on Saturday night.

The 36-year-old last played a game during IPL in May for the Delhi Capitals. He picked a three-wicket haul in that match to win the Player of the Match Award.

Ishant has 311 Test wickets, 115 ODI wickets and eight scalps in T20 Internationals.  He was given a cheque of Rs 51 lakh by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) at the inauguration of the tournament on August 17 for completing 100 Test matches. Shikhar Dhawan too got a cheque of Rs 51 lakh for his contribution to cricket while Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant got a cheque of Rs 75 lakh each for being part of the T20 World Cup-winning team.
