New Delhi: Indian cricket team have suffered a major setback ahead of the two-Test series against Sri Lanka with premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah being ruled out after failing to fully recover from the left knee injury he sustained during the ODI series against England.

The Men's Selection Committee on Monday named Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi as Bumrah's replacement, handing the 25-year-old his maiden call-up to the senior national side.

Nabi's selection comes on the back of impressive domestic performances. The right-arm fast bowler claimed 104 wickets across the last two Ranji Trophy seasons, including 60 wickets during the 2025-26 campaign, playing a key role in Jammu and Kashmir's maiden Ranji Trophy title-winning season.

He further strengthened his case during India A's recent tour of Sri Lanka, where he picked up six wickets in two first-class matches.

Bumrah's absence leaves Mohammed Siraj as the most experienced pace bowler in India's squad, with Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar and debutant Nabi forming the other frontline fast-bowling options.

The rest of the squad remains unchanged. Sai Sudharsan's participation, however, remains subject to fitness clearance.

Updated India squad: Shubman Gill (Captain), KL Rahul (Vice-Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sai Sudharsan*, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain and Auqib Nabi.
