Indian cricket team’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is fine despite the brief breakdown during the second day’s play in the second Test at the Adelaide Oval, India bowling coach Morne Morkel has confirmed.
Bumrah held his thigh during his 20th over after Travis Head hit him for four and Australia moved to 295/6. He was attended to by the physio, given the pickle drink and underwent treatment on the ground before resuming bowling. The first ball after resumption was hit for another four by Head.
The right-arm pace bowler has picked 12 wickets in the two Tests so far. His breakdown had left Indian fans worried.
“Bumrah is fine. Just had a little cramp. After that he bowled a few overs,” said Morkel after the end of the day’s play.
The 31-year-old had to sit out the third Test against New Zealand in Mumbai last month to ensure rest ahead of the five-Test series in Australia.
India won the first Test under his captaincy but are lagging behind in the second Test in Adelaide.
They are still 29 runs behind Australia and have five second innings wickets in hand. Australia had earned a 157-run lead in first innings.
Morkel said that they missed the trick in the night session on the first day with the bowlers not bowling well.
“Our lines and lengths were impeccable in the first Test. That was the blueprint going into this Test match. We wanted to bring the stumps into play as much as possible,” said Morkel.
“Last night, with the ball moving around we missed that. We were off the mark finding the right lengths. At times we were wide. We allowed the guys to leave a lot of balls. That was a sort of learning. We came out today, got more balls in the right area and bowled better.”
