Former India cricketer Kirti Azad, who is also a member of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), has called upon the DDCA Election Officer Achal Kumar Joti to verify the voters’ list and ensure that the KYC of each member is conducted.
“I understand the challenges and pressures that come with the role, but the essential qualification of the role requires that one must accommodate the aspirations of every member of the DDCA without judging them from the prism of any bias or prejudice,” he wrote in a letter addressed to Joti.
“There are certain written and unwritten responsibilities which come with the position you occupy, and one of them is to ensure that elections are held on an authentic voter list of the association or else there are numerous Judgements of the Apex Court that any election sans an authentic voter list/electoral role is a nullity.”
Azad, who is an MP with Trinamool Congress, went onto demand KYC (Know Your Client) whereupon the EO will be required to ascertain the genuineness of the members.
“I implore you to conduct the Elections after verification of the Members List and ensuring that KYC of each Members is conducted. Therefore, the Election Officer must issue a Notice in the National Newspaper both in English and vernacular language calling upon the members to submit their KYC within the stipulated time period…,” he added.
The 1983 World Cup-winner also pointed out that the contact details of EO were not mentioned in the notice.
“Further, I wish to bring on record that in the Election Notification dt.02 November 2024, there is no mention of your contact details, E-mail id or your office address. I request you to kindly publish the same at the earliest, to enable members to contact you for redressal of their grievances. I kindly request for a personal audience with you, as I am also contesting the forthcoming elections.”
