The Jawaharlal Nehru Hockey Tournament Society, which has been contributing immensely to the sport’s development in the national capital, organising sub-junior, junior and senior level competitions in the men’s and women’s categories, has not been able to conduct the senior women’s tournament as it seeks financial support through sponsorship.
“We conduct five tournaments in a year but this time we are facing a problem as we haven’t been able to find someone to fund our Senior Women’s tournament,” said Kukoo Walia, the Secretary General of the society, to www.thedelhijunction.com
According to Walia, the society incurs an expense of Rs 1.5 crore to conduct the five tournaments in New Delhi.
There is the under-15 boys (sub-junior), under-17 boys, under-17 girls (both in junior category) as well as the Senior Men and Senior Women. While all the former four were held last year, in 2024, there were no backers for the Senior Women’s tournament.
“It is very tough to organise five tournaments. This would be the third edition of the Senior Women tournament. The expenses for conducting the Senior Women’s tournament would amount to Rs 15 lakh,” said Walia.
“We are trying our best and have approached various quarters. We will announce when it happens.”
