New Delhi: The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has brought in a rule that seeks to discourage players from missing league matches.
In a note issued on Tuesday, the association has said that those not fulfilling the criteria will not be selected for the Delhi teams for the 2026-27 season.
"This is to inform all concerned that, effective season 2026-2027, the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) will implement the following eligibility criteria for players aspiring to participate in state team trials: All players are required to play a minimum of five (5) matches in the DDCA League during the current year. Players who fail to comply with the above requirement would not be considered for Trials / Team selection / Probable for Domestic Season under any circumstances," said the note from DDCA secretary, Ashok Sharma.
The note added, "All those players participating in on-going Bowling camp would be considered on merit."
Giving reason for bringing in such a rule, the association secretary stated, "All clubs, coaches, and players are advised to take note of this and ensure compliance. This measure has been introduced to encourage consistent participation in the DDCA League and to maintain fairness in the selection process."
The decision comes following poor performances of the various men's teams. The senior team once again disappointed, failing to enter the knockouts of Ranji Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. They managed to reach the knockouts of the Vijay Hazare Trophy one-dayers but lost their first match there.
