Priyansh Arya, Himmat Singh power Delhi to win over Uttar Pradesh

Delhi opener Priyansh Arya powered to 102 off 43 balls (5x4s, 10x6s) to help his side pile up 233/3 in 20 overs and record a 47-run win over Uttar Pradesh in a Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Arya, who was the top run-getter in Delhi Premier League with 608 runs, added 65 for the second wicket with Ayush Badoni (26 off 25) and then put on 99 for the third wicket with Himmat Singh (77 not out off 34 balls; 6x6s, 4x4s) to take the team to a strong total.

The UP side was no mean attack as they included seasoned Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/29) and IPL pace bowler Shivam Mavi (0/48) as well as veteran Piyush Chawla (0/52).

When UP came into bat, it was veteran pace bowler Ishant Sharma who picked two early wickets while Simarjeet Singh took one at the start to reduce UP to 34/3 in five overs.

Former Delhi player Nitish Rana (61 off 42 balls; 7x4s, 2x6s) and Rinku Singh (70 off 38 balls; 8x4s, 4x6s) then added 98 for the fourth wicket in 9.3 overs. However, it was too late as UP needed 102 off 33 balls at the fall of fourth wicket, which was Rinku Singh’s, and it left them with too much to chase.

They eventually ended at 186/8 in 20 overs.

A four and a six by Bhuvneshwar Kumar off the last two balls could only bring some excitement at the end.
