Purani Dilli 6 cruise into semi-finals of Delhi Premier League

Prince Yadav's three-wicket haul and important innings of 40-odd by Lalit Yadav and Yug Gupta help Purani Dilli 6 beat Central Delhi Kings by 33 runs and enter the last four stage of the tournament

Prince Yadav, a pace bowler from Najafgarh, bowled an inspired spell of 3/15 to help Purani Dilli 6 beat Central Delhi Kings by 33 runs and qualify for the semi-finals of the Delhi Premier League T20 at the Ferozeshah Kotla grounds of the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday.

Lalit Yadav scored 46 not out off 29 balls while Yug Gupta chipped in with 44 off 30 balls as Purani Dilli 6 made 173/6 in 20 overs. In response, Central Delhi Kings were restricted to 140/8 in 20 overs, with Jonty Sidhu top-scoring with 52 off 34 balls.

“I always follow the same plan but today I executed them well. I always try to do my best for the team. It was a do-or-die match today for our team. There was intent and that is why I  delivered. The rest of the bowlers helped too,” said the bowler who hails from Daryapur Village in Najafgarh and represents Sporting Club in the DDCA League.

“I started cricket in Delhi and then joined Sporting Club. Pradeep Sangwan and Lait Yadav have inspired me,” said the bowler who idolises Dale Steyn.

Yadav and Aayush Singh capitalised on the early swing to contain Central Delhi Kings during the Powerplay. Yadav drew first blood by dismissing Dhruv Kaushik (2 off 5), and the second wicket came through a run-out, with Central Delhi Kings at 39/2 after six overs.

Lakshay Thareja, who looked in good touch, couldn't build on his start as he was dismissed for 34 off 26 in the ninth over. At the halfway mark, Central Delhi Kings were reduced to 57/3.

Shivam Sharma then removed Hiten Dalal (27 off 25) in the 14th over, with the required run rate climbing above 12. Central Delhi Kings crossed the 100-run mark in the 15th over as they struggled to accelerate the run chase.

Yadav then dismissed impact sub-Aryan Rana (8 off 10) in the 17th over, and then had Sidhu caught and bowled to return with figures of 3/16.

Dilli 6 too had a slow start, getting only 38 runs in the Powerplay.

Keshav Dalal and Yug Gupta accelerated before Lalit Yadav provided the late fillip and took them to 173/6.

Central Delhi Kings captain Sidhu was disappointed after the match.

“They bowled very well throughout the match. They gave us very few loose balls. We tried our best to bowl, but they bowled very well,” said Sidhu.
