New Delhi: Students from schools across the capital showcased their skills at the annual Ghazal-Saraaee Competition organised by the Ghalib Institute, with Rabiah Girls Public School emerging as the standout performer by claiming the top two prizes.
The competition was held at Ghalib Hall on July 30 under the aegis of the Begum Abida Ahmed Ghalib Museum, drawing participation from students representing several Delhi schools.
Welcoming the participants, Ghalib Institute Director Dr. Idrees Ahmed said the institute's museum dedicated to the renowned Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib hosts the annual event under the patronage and supervision of its chairperson, Begum Saba Durrez. He said the competition provides young students with a platform to develop an appreciation for Urdu poetry and preserve Ghalib's literary legacy.
Begum Abida Ahmed Ghalib Museum Manager and Programme Coordinator Yasmin said the institute not only invites internationally acclaimed singers but also encourages young talent through such initiatives. She expressed satisfaction over the enthusiastic participation of students from schools across Delhi this year.
The competition was judged by Professor Asif Naqvi and Ustad Saeed-ur-Rehman.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Naqvi stressed the importance of correct pronunciation and standard language in poetry recitation, urging parents and teachers to help children develop proper diction.
Ustad Saeed-ur-Rehman congratulated the winners while encouraging those who missed out on prizes to treat the experience as motivation for future success, saying perseverance would prove valuable throughout life.
Huda of Rabiah Girls Public School won the first prize, while her schoolmate Alishba Danish secured the second prize. The third prize went to a participant from SAH Secondary School, Jamia Millia Islamia.
Consolation prizes were awarded to Raian of DAV School, Ali Abbas of Zeenat Mahal School and Keshav Narayan Singh of Salwan Public School.
Students from Fatima Academy, Rabiah Girls Public School, Crescent School, Sarvodya Kanya Vidyalaya, Salwan Public School, Zeenat Mahal School, Government Girls Secondary School and SAH Secondary School, Jamia Millia Islamia participated in the competition.
The names of the children who participated in the program are as follows: Saadia, Tasmia (Fatima Academy), Alishba Danish, Huda (Rabiah Girls Public School), Khalid Hashmi, Tarfiha (Crescent School), Laiba, Zikra (Sarvodya Kanya Vidyalaya), Gurvi Singh, Keshav Narayan Singh (Salwan Public School), Ali Zaman, Ali Abbas (Zeenat Mahal), Aira, Madiha (Govt. Girls Secondary School), Muhammad Tabish Taj, Umeema Bano (SAH Secondary School Jamia Millia Islamia).
