Rohan Jaitley unlikely for BCCI, set to fight in DDCA after mother withdraws name

The withdrawal of Sangeeta Jaitley means that Jaitley will unlikely be going to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as its new secretary and instead be focussing on the state body’s elections scheduled for December 13, 14 and 15

Rohan Jaitley will face off against former India cricketer Kirti Azad in a duel for President’s post in the upcoming Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) elections after his mother Sangeeta Jaitley, the third candidate, withdrew her name from the contest.

The withdrawal of Sangeeta Jaitley, who is the wife of former DDCA President and Union minister late Arun Jaitley, means that Jaitley will unlikely be going to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as its new secretary and instead be focussing on the state body’s elections scheduled for December 13, 14 and 15.

Both Jaitley and his mother had filed their nomination for the President’s post on November 19 since the current dispensation wanted to retain the top post even during the former’s absence (if he were to make it to BCCI).

“The fact that Rohan is fighting for the top post after his mother has withdrawn her name in BCCI means that he will not be going to the post vacated by Jay Shah in BCCI,” said an official in the DDCA.

There are three groups in fray. However, the fight for President’s post involves only two groups.

The Tihara-Paweriya group has said that they had recognised Jaitley as their presidential candidate.

“We were and are with him. But it seems he doesn’t want us. So we decided to not fight for President’s post and put candidates for the rest of the seats. But we will work with whoever becomes President – Jaitley or Azad,” said Vinod Tihara of the Paweriya-Tihara group who is fighting for secretary’s post.
