The RP Cricket Academy organised its annual intra-academy tournament at the Gargi College on January 19.

The tournament saw the trainees divided into five teams in each of under-13 and under-10 categories. The under-16 category had four teams.

There was also a girls’ team in each category.

“The idea was to give the young trainees matches to play. What happens is that when trainees play among themselves in the academy, they try to get competitive. I believe that game time is the most important thing for players,” said Surjeet Verma, Director of the RP Academy.

Each team got to play four matches in the under-13 and under-10 categories in the first stage. Four of the teams then qualified for the semi-finals. This was followed by the semi-final, 3rd place playoff and the final.

The under-16 category saw each team play three games before the semi-finals involving all four teams and then the 3rd place playoff and the final.

The event was attended by the President of Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), Rohan Jaitley, who was the Chief Guest.

Among others to attend the event were the DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma, Director Shyam Sharma, ex-Sports Secretary Vinod Tihara and DCP (Crime) Rakesh Pawariya.
