New Delhi: Left-handed opener Samarth Seth has put his overseas cricket commitments on hold to focus entirely on Delhi cricket as he seeks to strengthen his case for selection in the Delhi T20 team.
Seth, a former Delhi Under-23 cricketer, has given up opportunities to play as an overseas professional -- he has previously played in England's league circuit and in first-class cricket in Sri Lanka -- choosing instead to concentrate on domestic performances in the capital.
The decision appears to be paying dividends. Seth enjoyed a prolific 2024-25 DDCA Premier Division season, amassing 734 runs at an impressive average of 74 to finish as the competition's leading run-scorer.
The opener was also instrumental in Collage's triumph in the GG Dutt T20 tournament last season, earning the Player of the Tournament award for his consistent performances. This year, although his side finished runners-up, Seth starred in the final with a blistering 80 off just 38 deliveries.
His outstanding form continued in the DDCA T20 League, where he emerged among the leading run-getters with 532 runs in 10 innings at an average of 76.
Seth had also featured for Purani Dilli 6 in the second edition of the Delhi Premier League last year, producing several impactful innings during the tournament.
Reflecting on his commitment to Delhi cricket, Seth said his focus over the past two seasons has been solely on performing in local competitions.
"For the last two seasons, my focus has been entirely on Delhi cricket. Earlier, I used to play as an overseas professional in the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, and Ireland during the off-season, but over the past two years I have committed myself fully to performing in Delhi cricket," he said.
The batter added that he has also made significant improvements off the field, shedding 10 kilograms over the last two years as part of a dedicated fitness programme.
"My complete focus now is on continuing to improve, helping my team succeed, and preparing for the upcoming Delhi Premier League," Seth added.
