Shubman Gill to lead North Zone in Duleep Trophy

Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Anshul Kamboj among other India players in the squad; Yash Dhull and Ayush Badoni also in the squad

Shubman Gill, who led India to a 2-2 drawn series and performed admirably with the bat scoring 754 runs in the recent five-Test series in England, has been named captain of North Zone for the Duleep Trophy that commences on August 28.

The North Zone selection committee that comprised a selector from each zone, included Nikhil Chopra (Delhi), Chetan Sharma (Haryana), Amit Uniyal (Chandigarh) and convenor Mithun Manhas (Jammu & Kahsmir) besides the representatives from Services (Captain Raj Kumar) and Himachal Pradesh (Mukesh Kumar).

Among other India players in the team are Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Anshul Kamboj.

However, the selectors have also kept standby players for Gill, Arshdeep or Harshit if they get picked for the India team for the Asia Cup that gets underway in the UAE from September 9.

Duleep Trophy commences on August 28.

“It was discussed and decided in the meeting that, in the event Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, or any of them are selected for the Indian team during the upcoming series coinciding with the Duleep Trophy tournament, the following replacements will be made: Shubham Rohilla (Services) will replace Shubman Gill, Gurnoor Brar will replace Arshdeep Singh [and] Anuj Thukral will replace Harshit Rana,” said a statement from the committee.
