Shweta, Chhavi guide South Delhi Superstarz to win

Shweta Sehrawat scores 44 not out and Chhavi Gupta hits 32 in a rain affected game that saw South Delhi Superstarz beat Central Delhi Queens by nine wickets via DLS method

Riding on Shweta Sehrawat’s knock of 44 not out, South Delhi Superstarz Women defeated Central Delhi Queens by 17 runs via DLS method in a Women’s Delhi Premier League T20 match at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground in the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Vandana Chaturvedi's 34 off 29 and Neha Chillar's unbeaten cameo of 24 off 14 helped Central Delhi Queens post 127/7 in their 20 overs. In reply, the South Delhi Superstarz saw a solid start from openers Shweta and Chhavi Gupta.

They kept the scoreboard ticking with timely boundaries and put up 71 runs in 10 overs. However, Chhavi was dismissed in the following over after scoring 32 off 32 balls.

South Delhi Superstarz Women were cruising towards victory when rain halted play after 12 overs, with the team at 85/1. They were awarded the win through the DLS method as play could not resume within the cut-off time due to rain.

"I am glad we played as a unit and as a team and we ticked all the boxes in all the situations. Initially, when we came into bat, we thought of playing an attacking game and giving our best. We tried to take as many runs as possible in the Powerplay," said Shweta after the game.

Earlier in the day, Central Delhi Queens got off to a steady start. While Vandana Chaturvedi took charge, Armeet Kaur played a supporting role, and together they put up a 50-run opening partnership. However, Central Delhi Queens lost wickets in quick succession as they were reduced to 63/3 at the halfway mark.

South Delhi Superstarz women then halted Central Delhi Queens' momentum, as they took timely wickets in the following overs. Neha Chillar contributed a vital 24 not out off 14 in the final phase of the innings, guiding Central Delhi Queens to 127/7 in their 20 overs.

Tanisha Singh was the standout bowler as she returned with figures of 2/7 in her three overs, while Aarti Kumari, Medhavi Bidhuri, and Sumiti Soni took one wicket each.
