Veteran journalist Jasvinder Sidhu no more

New Delhi: Senior sports journalist Jasvinder Sidhu passed away in the wee hours of Monday following a road accident near Ghazipur flyover in east Delhi. He was 58. He was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in Khichripur initially before being moved to GTB Hospital at Shahdara where he was pronounced dead.

Sidhu, fondly called Jassi by fellow journalists, was a hard-working, boots-on-the-ground reporter with a nose for news. He served sports journalism for about three decades and had a very long stint at Hindi newspaper, Amar Ujala. He also worked at the Hindustan Times for a few years in the 2010s before becoming a freelance journalist. He also wrote for Mid Day, Caravan, BBC, The Hindu, Economic Times, The Wire among others and reported on political matters too.

The Press Club of India mourned his demise and issued a statement.

"We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of veteran sports journalist Jaswinder Sidhu in a tragic road accident. A familiar and respected presence at the Press Club of India, his passing marks a profound loss to Indian journalism," the Club said in a statement.

"His dedication to sports journalism, unwavering professionalism and insightful reporting earned him immense respect across the media fraternity. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and all those whose lives he touched. May his soul rest in eternal peace."

The Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI) also issued a statement, condoling his passing.
