With SRK's son as a team owner, Qutab Golf League promises new era in the sport

The upcoming Qutab Golf League in the national capital is expected to garner plenty of attention for it marks the debut of Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan as owner in franchise sport and will be a rare league played over three days in three different months featuring 160 players. The event will tee off at the Qutab Golf Club on January 4.

The fact that it is being played at Delhi's Qutab Golf Club, one of the few public courses in the country, means that the event could be an opportunity for making the sport permeate to the public.

There are going to be 10 teams with Aryan being one of the owners, of Mighty Pathaans.

The tournament, to be played on January 4, February 1 and March 1, is a brainchild of Game of Life Sports (GOLS) promoted by Amit Kharbanda and Samant Sikka, who have tied up with Digraj Golf Inc. who are also behind events like the Delhi Golf Club League.

Besides three playing days, the league will also feature two knowledge sharing masterclasses and several entertaining social evenings, said the organisers at the launch on Wednesday.

“Each team will comprise 16 players, 12 of whom will be picked by the owners and the rest four through auction,” said Sikka to the www.thedelhijunction.com.

“The tournament will be played on the Stableford Golf Scoring System in which points are given for each shot. On the first two days, points of top nine players will be added to determine the position of the team while on the last playing day, the points of all 12 players will be added. Every team will have to feature all 16 players in the tournament but only 12 can play in a day,” he added.

The cumulative scores will determine the winning team.

As per the Stableford Golf Scoring System, points are added for each shot.

“When the usual scoring is followed, the players don’t necessarily get penalised for bad shots. They can have multiple poor, over-par strokes but can come back with a few good shots. With this, each shot is important as points are assigned to it,” added Sikka.  

The competitors will play on 75 % of their original handicaps.

The teams have been structured in a way to ensure that each one of them enrols juniors, ladies, seniors, government employees and representatives of the Armed forces among others.

“There is Rs 20 lakh in prize money given for the top two teams with the first team getting Rs 12 lakh. All team members will also get attractive prizes. There will also be a lot of exciting Individual prizes each day and also for overall scores for the event,” said the organisers.

The 12 owner picks will include:

a) 2 Ladies

b) 1 Junior (under 18 years of age)

c) 1 Senior (above 65 years of age)

d) 1 Government Official (IAS, IFS, IPS, Government Employees both serving and retired)

e) 1 Armed Officer (from the Army, Navy, Air Force, CRPF, other Military Services – both serving and retired)
