Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was being considered to take over as Head Coach of Delhi Capitals before the franchise management decided to bring in Hemang Badani, it has been reliably learnt.

According to sources in the league aware of the development, Yuvraj was being pushed into the hot seat by a section. However, GMR, who will run the Delhi Capitals men’s team for the next couple of years i.e. 2025 and 2026, decided to make Badani as the coach and Venugopal Rao as the Director of Cricket.

It has also been learnt that JSW, who own 50% of the stake, may have possibly appointed Yuvraj as the coach.

The ex-India cricketer, who won the Player of the Tournament Award in 2011 World Cup, could now shift to either Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders or Lucknow Super Giants in some capacity.

The Delhi Capitals had appointed the new coaching staff on October 17.

“We are delighted to welcome Hemang and Venu to Delhi Capitals. Both have been an integral part of our team for a long time, and we are excited to have them on board in a different role. With their proven track record as coaches, we’re confident that their expertise will be invaluable in helping us achieve our objectives and drive success for Delhi Capitals,” Kiran Kumar Grandhi, Chairman and Co-owner of Delhi Capitals, had said in a statement after the appointment.

The Capitals have retained four of their players -- Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs and Abishek Porel.

They decided not to retain India star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who on Saturday scored important 60 runs that helped India recover in the first innings of the ongoing third and final Test at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
