The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the dominant force in the recent Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by-elections, winning seven out of the 12 contested wards after results were declared on Wednesday. The State Election Commission's announcement underscores a notable shift in the civic political dynamics of the national capital.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) retained three seats, while both the Congress and the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) secured one ward each. Of the 12 wards that voted on November 30, nine were previously held by the BJP and three by the AAP, making these bypolls a critical assessment for both parties.

To facilitate the counting process, the State Election Commission set up 10 centers across the city, including locations such as Kanjhawala, Pitampura, and Dwarka. The counting was conducted under strict security, with strong rooms for the electronic voting machines monitored by CCTV round the clock.

To ensure everything ran smoothly, around 1,800 Delhi Police personnel and 10 paramilitary companies were deployed, along with an additional 700 staff dedicated to counting responsibilities. Arrangements were also made for candidates and their authorized counting agents.

Voter turnout for these by-elections was recorded at 38.51%, a notable decline from the 50.47% turnout during the full MCD elections held in 2022, indicating a subdued public engagement despite the significant political implications.
