Delhi’s campaign in the Women’s Under-23 One-Day Trophy ended in disappointment after they lost their quarterfinal match to Maharashtra by seven wickets in Guwahati on Friday.

Delhi had also lost to Maharashtra in the group stage, where they ended second in Group C. Following the end of that round, skipper Tanisha Singh had said that Maharashtra remains the only challenge for them on their route to the title.

“They are the only team, we feel, that can challenge us,” Tanisha had said.

It is their misfortune that they bumped into the team in the quarterfinal stage only and eventually lost the match.

Delhi were put into bat and ended their innings at 236/9 in 50 overs. Shweta Sehrawat top-scored with 59 off 68 balls (3x4s, 2x6s) while skipper Tanisha Singh continued with her good form, making 58 off 56 balls (7x4s).

Opener Pragya Rawat made 40 off 76 balls while Purva scored 32 off 46 balls.

Delhi’s innings were built on second-wicket partnership of 94 between Pragya Rawat and Tanisha Singh and the fifth wicket partnership of 61 between Shweta and Purva.

KN Mulla was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4/52 in 10 overs.

The total proved too little against a very strong Maharashtra batting line-up.

Openers Ishwari Awasare (36) and KN Mulla (41) added 68 for the first wicket in 12.5 overs as Delhi struggled to find a breakthrough.

Ishwari Savkar scored 79 (89 balls, 8x4s) and wicketkeeper Bhavika Ahira made 62 not out (83 balls, 6x4s).

Spinner Ekta Bhadana was the most successful of Delhi bowlers, taking 2/43.
