New Delhi: The Minister for Education, Ashish Sood, inaugurated the newly constructed “Ayushman Arogya Mandir” at M Block, Prem Nagar, Uttam Nagar, under the Janakpuri Assembly constituency on Friday. This marks the fifth Arogya Mandir to be set up in Janakpuri.

Speaking at the event, Ashish Sood emphasised that the Arogya Mandir is more than just a building — it represents the Delhi Government’s commitment to extending healthcare services to every individual in society. He highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the healthcare sector and ensure that quality medical services are accessible to all residents of Delhi.

Sood added that the government’s aim is to provide affordable, high-quality, and easily accessible healthcare services close to citizens’ homes, reinforcing its vision of inclusive healthcare for the community.

He emphasised that after the age of 40–45 years, every individual should undergo regular health check-ups at least once every six months. In private hospitals, such health packages cost up to approximately ₹8,000. If four to five members of a family undergo such tests, the annual expense can reach up to ₹80,000.

"However, under the guidance of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Government is working at multiple levels to provide free diagnostic tests and better healthcare facilities to all citizens of Delhi, thereby offering financial relief to ordinary families."

He also stated that the Government has implemented the Ayushman scheme in Delhi for citizens above 70 years of age. Under this scheme, eligible senior citizens can avail free health insurance coverage up to ₹10 lakh.

The Education Minister further informed that 14 types of laboratory tests are currently available at the Arogya Mandir. Soon, through outsourced services, the number of diagnostic tests will be expanded to 100.

In addition, under maternal and child healthcare services, facilities such as regular antenatal check-ups during pregnancy, postnatal care, monitoring of child growth and development, and nutritional counselling are being provided. Immunization services for children aged 0 to 5 years and pregnant women are also being regularly administered.

Sood stated that regular screening for diabetes and hypertension is available at the centre, along with early cancer screening, routine monitoring, and follow-up care. Facilities for prevention of lifestyle-related diseases, mental health counselling, and periodic health camps by specialists will also be organized at the centre.

He further announced that a mobile dispensary service will soon be launched in Janakpuri to provide healthcare services at the doorstep of residents. Through this initiative, qualified doctors, essential medicines, and diagnostic facilities will directly reach neighbourhoods and localities.

Criticising the previous government, Sood remarked that during their tenure, the health model operated out of “iron box” structures where neither experienced and qualified doctors nor adequate staff were available. Patients often did not receive medicines on time, and such Mohalla Clinics were set up at locations that were not easily accessible to residents.

Sood appealed to the residents of Janakpuri to take full advantage of the free health check-up facilities and actively participate in building a healthier Delhi.
