The franchises from South Delhi, East Delhi, North Delhi and the Central Delhi will field teams in both the men and women’s categories of the Delhi Premier League, it has been reliably learnt by www.thedelhijunction.com.

The South Delhi franchise fetched Rs 8.95 crore, East Delhi Rs 8.30 crore, North Delhi Rs 8.25 crore and Central Rs 8.15 crore whereas Old Delhi and West Delhi franchises got no bids for women teams and went for Rs 8 crore each. The latter two will field teams only in the men’s section of the league.

The four teams – South, East, North and Central -- had been initially sold for a base price of Rs 8 crore but the addition of women’s teams in the contract fetched them extra few lakh.

The sale of teams realised Rs 49.65 crore in all, according to an official at the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

There will be 40 matches in the league with 33 of them played by men franchises and seven by women franchises.

The DDCA had initially planned to host the matches in three venues – the Ferozeshah Kotla grounds of the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Yamuna Sports Complex, and Jamia Millia Islamia as all the three venues have floodlights.

However, since the matches will be televised, it was decided by the DDCA that all the matches will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium now.

According to the official, “The matches will be broadcast by Jio Cinema and hence, they will be staged at the Kotla.”
