The Delhi Premier League (DPL), the franchise-based T20 League of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) will be held from August 2 to 31, a top office-bearer of the state cricket body has confirmed.
"The tournament will begin on August 2 and end on August 31. There will be a total of 50 matches, 43 in men's category and seven in women's category," said Ashok Sharma, the secretary of the association.
All the matches will be played at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground inside Arun Jaitley Stadium, which has nine pitches. The 30-day tournament will also feature double-headers.
The introduction of two new franchises -- New Delhi Tigers and Outer Delhi Warriors -- has increased the number of matches this year. There are eight franchises now, up from six that participated last year. The other six are: South Delhi Superstarz, East Delhi Riders, West Delhi Lions, North Delhi Strikers, Central Delhi Kings and Puraani Dilli 6.
There were 33 men's matches and seven women's matches last year, at the inaugural edition.
The number of women's teams have remained the same this time. There are four women's teams -- Central Delhi Queens, North Delhi Strikers, South Delhi Superstarz and East Delhi Riders.
The second edition this year, however, was preceded by auction for both men and women.
