Delhi under-23 team thrashed Nagaland by innings and 185 runs in a Col CK Nayudu match that concluded at the st Stephen's College GRound on Monday.

The win that saw Delhi get a bonus point along with points for match victory and earned them a total of 16 points pushed them into second position in the points table, just behind Uttar Pradesh. They now have 56 points while third-placed Gujarat have 54 points.

“We took outright win in the last match. We were very positive for this match, and wanted to dominate. We had to dominate. I was positive from the start and that is what the plan was. We wanted to make a score and not bat again,” said batsman Ayush Doseja, who hit 179 runs batting at No. 4. Opener Arpit Rana hit 127 while Sujal Singh, who was the other opener, made 77.

Rahul Chaudhary, batting at No. 9, slammed 126 as Delhi under-23 piled up 587 in response to Nagaland’s 240 all out. Earlier, left-arm spinner Rounak Waghela had taken 7/54 to dismiss Nagaland for a low score.

After getting a lead of 347 runs, Delhi dismissed Nagaland for 162 in the second innings.

Pace bowler Aayush Singh took 5/26.

Opener Mughavi Sumi was the only Naga batsman to offer resistance. He made 51 in first innings and 88 in the second innings.

“This was an easier match than the one against Gujarat because Nagaland’s performance wasn’t as good in the season. We had to win bonus point,” added Doseja.
