Gwalior school rides on Nousheen double to win Nehru girls' hockey title

Kiddy’s Corner Girls Higher Secondary School beat Directorate General, NCC 4-3 to emerge winners of Charanjit Rai 30th Nehru Girls Hockey Tournament; Sukhpreet Kaur wins Player of the Tournament Award

Nousheen Naz scored two goals to help Kiddy’s Corner Girls (KCG) Higher Secondary School, Gwalior beat Directorate General, NCC 4-3 in the final of the Charanjit Rai 30th Nehru Girls Hockey Tournament in New Delhi’s Shivaji Stadium.

Nousheen scored field goals in the 30th and 36th minutes to help her team break away from 1-1 deadlock and take lead.

KCG had opened the scoring through Keshar Bhabar before NCC equalised through a penalty corner in the 18th minute.

After Nousheen’s goals, NCC reduced the lead through a penalty stroke by Harshita in the 48th minute but then KCG extended the lead back two goals through a penalty stroke that was converted by jersey No. 7 Krishna Sharma.

NCC reduced the margin through a penalty corner in the 60th minute.

But it was KCG who held onto win.

Krishna Sharma was declared the Best Forward of the Match getting a trophy, a Flash hockey stick and a cheque of Rs 15,000.

Ronak Parmar was adjudged the Best Defender of the Match and given Rs 11,000, a Flash hockey stick, as well as a trophy.

The Geeta Bajaj Trophy for Fair Play went to CM Girls School, Jharkhand.

NCC’s Sukhpreet Kaur was adjudged the Player of the Tournament and got Rs 25,000 cash prize as well as a Flash hockey stick, and a trophy.

This was some consolation for her after she was dropped from India probables for the Netherlands trip.

Oindrilla Pramanick from West Bengal got the Best Umpire of the Tournament Award with a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
