Three Delhi players made it to the DY Patil team in the DY Patil T20 Cup held in Mumbai recently. While Ayush Badoni and Yash Dhull being part of the team was no surprise due to their IPL and first-class cricket experience, 16-year-old pace bowler Pradyuman Sanan’s participation may have left many surprised.

The right-arm pace bowler, however, returned with flying colours picking 10 wickets – he could have got many more but for some luck – as he played a key role in his team DY Patil Red winning the title. He was the third highest wickettaker in the tournament.

Those aware of the happenings in Delhi cricket circles would know that the pace bowler is among the hottest talents, and should be marked for the future.

Tall, with an easy action, he has the ability to move the ball and work some pace.

“He began playing at the age of seven. Never thought he would play for so long. Since I have played cricket, do coaching, I realised he has some talent. I thought he will become strong with time when he goes to the ground and eats well. So, I pushed him up gradually,” says father Sambhav.

Pradyuman began playing for clubs. He was lucky that his father is well acquainted in Delhi’s cricket circles, which is why he got the opportunity to represent clubs.

“Because I am a coach, people would oblige me. I don’t have any club.”

In the 2023-24 season, Pradyuman gave trials for Delhi under-16s representing Bright Club. He got five wickets in five balls in a game to force people to sit up and take notice.

“He got selected for Delhi under-16s. Whenever he got a chance to play for Delhi, he performed -- played three games for Delhi and got 10-12 wickets. Got an outright win for Delhi. He was picked for NCA, and attended it. He also got a call from MRF pace foundation.

“He did very well in the trial matches this year for U-19.”

Pradyuman Sanan, an emerging star

For some reason, he wasn’t selected in the initial matches, and picked for only the last two matches of the 2024-25 season. He was part of the squad.

He played DDCA League for Telefunken in one-dayers this season for the first time. Last year, he had impressed in the T20 format.

Former India pace bowler and ex-Delhi coach Sanjeev Sharma saw the bowler perform in a tournament he conducts. He had great things to say about the young right-armer and even posted his name on social media.

That probably helped him get an opportunity to play in DY Patil T20 Cup.

What satisfies father Sambhav is that the wickets he got in DY Patil T20 Cup were of acclaimed players like Prithvi Shaw, Ashutosh Sharma among others who have represented their first-class sides and IPL teams.

Perhaps, the Delhi selectors can look to him and groom him for the future as the team suffers with shortage of pace bowlers.
