Bengaluru: In a commanding performance at the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, Delhi outclassed Railways by six wickets in an Elite Group D league match on January 6, 2026, at the KSCA Cricket Ground in Bengaluru. The result not only reinforced Delhi’s growing supremacy in the domestic one-day competition but also sealed their place in the quarter-finals with a game to spare.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Railways posted a modest 179 all out in 40.4 overs, a total that never felt enough against a strong Delhi chasing lineup. Railways struggled to build consistent partnerships, with only middle-order batter Kush Marathe offering resistance with a gritty 51 off 66 balls. Other Railways batters found the going tough against disciplined bowling, as the home side’s attack regularly struck with the new ball and kept the pressure on.

Delhi’s bowling unit was clinical. Navdeep Saini and Ayush Badoni led the charge, claiming three wickets each and chipping away at Railways’ lineup. Veteran pacer Ishant Sharma impressed early, and the supporting bowlers kept the run rate in check throughout the innings. Their disciplined lines and lengths ensured Railways never got into a commanding position.

Chasing a target of 180, Delhi sprang into action emphatically. Opener Priyansh Arya was the star of the show, blasting a scintillating 80 off just 41 balls that featured 12 fours and three sixes. Arya’s aggressive knock put Delhi firmly in control and earned him the Player of the Match award. Together with partner Sarthak Ranjan, he put on a blistering opening stand that effectively took the contest away from Railways early in the chase.

Delhi captain Rishabh Pant continued his rich vein of form, adding a quickfire cameo that kept the scoreboard ticking. The chase was completed comfortably at 182 for four in just 21.4 overs, showcasing Delhi’s dominance and chase-capability in high-pressure situations.

Although Railways showed glimpses of competitiveness, they were ultimately outplayed in all departments. Delhi’s win underlined their title credentials and sent a strong message to the rest of the competition — they are a force to be reckoned with as the knockout stages approach.
