New Delhi: April 25, 2026 will be remembered as one of the most extraordinary days in the history of the Indian Premier League, as two matches produced a staggering 986 runs, record-breaking chases, and breathtaking individual performances. Fixtures between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, followed by Rajasthan Royals against Sunrisers Hyderabad, saw the boundaries of T20 batting pushed to unprecedented levels.
Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals
The first match of the day turned into a historic run chase led by Punjab Kings. Chasing a daunting 265, Punjab Kings completed the pursuit in just 18.5 overs, registering the highest successful chase in IPL history.
The Delhi Capitals innings was headlined by a sensational knock from KL Rahul (152 not out off 67 balls, 16x4s, 9x6s), who recorded the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history. He was ably supported by Nitish Rana who made 91 runs off 44 balls (11x4s, 4x6s). DC made 264/2 in 20 overs.
But Punjab Kings' skipper Shreyas Iyer (71 off 36 balls, 3x4s, 7x6s) anchored the chase with authority and composure after opener PRabhsimran Singh had raced to 76 off 26 balls (9x4s, 5x6s).
The two dismantled the Delhi bowling attack.
Delhi Capitals, despite posting what would typically be a match-winning total, were left stunned as their bowlers struggled to contain the relentless assault.
Rajasthan Royals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad
If the first match was remarkable, the second proved equally historic. Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down a formidable 229-run target set by Rajasthan Royaks in just 18.3 overs, marking the fourth-highest successful chase in IPL history.
The chase was defined by a stunning innings from Ishan Kishan, who blasted a breathtaking 31-ball 74, and his fellow India T20 opener Abhishek Sharma who scored 29-ball 57. The duo's fearless approach at the top dismantled the opposition attack and set the tone for the chase.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals had piled up a massive total thanks to a 36-ball century from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (103 off 37 balls, 5x4s, 12x6s). Dhruv Jurel made 51 off 35 balls.
However, Hyderabad’s counterattack proved even more devastating, as Sooryavanshi's record-breaking century was overshadowed.
