New Delhi: The news of the death of prominent Urdu fiction writer and novelist Jilani Bano has saddened the literary circles.
While offering condolences, Secretary of the world-renowned Urdu institution Ghalib Institute, Professor Siddique-ur-Rehman Kidwai, said, "Jilani Bano was one of the prominent figures of Urdu fiction who presented social issues, the position of women, class inequality and human emotions in a very effective way through her works."
Jilani Bano’s literary services span several decades. Her short stories and novels hold a special place in Urdu literature. In her writings, she not only made social oppression and injustice the main subject but also highlighted the internal conflict and self-knowledge of women with great subtlety.
"Her style was simple but effective, in which realism and intellectual depth are prominent. Her passing is a great shock to the entire Urdu world. On behalf of myself and the institution, I offer my condolences to all her family members," he said.
Idrees Ahmed, Director of Ghalib Institute, said, "Jilani Bano was a stylistic writer of Urdu. Among her famous works, the novel ‘Aiwan-e-Ghazal’ gained special fame, which was highly appreciated in literary circles."
In addition, several collections of her short stories were also published, which made a place in the hearts of readers. In recognition of her literary services, she was also awarded various awards, including the prestigious Padma Shri awarded by the Government of India.
"With her death, Urdu literature has lost an epoch-making writer. Her death is an irreparable loss for Urdu fiction," said Ahmed.
