New Delhi: India completed a comprehensive 3-0 ODI series whitewash of Afghanistan in June 2026, showcasing the depth of their batting resources and the emergence of a new generation of match-winners. Led by captain Shubman Gill, the Indian cricket team won the opening ODI in Dharamsala by seven wickets, followed it up with a crushing 170-run victory in Lucknow, and sealed the series with a nine-wicket triumph in Chennai. The series was marked by dominant batting displays, effective fast bowling and several standout individual performances.
The first ODI, reduced to 25 overs a side due to rain, saw India chase down 195 with ease after restricting Afghanistan to 194. Gill's unbeaten 84 guided the hosts home after useful contributions from Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul.
The second ODI was the defining match of the series. India piled up 402, powered by centuries from Gill and Kishan, before bowling Afghanistan out for 232. The victory secured the series with a game to spare and highlighted India's batting firepower.
In the final ODI at Chennai, Yashasvi Jaiswal struck a magnificent unbeaten 110 while Rohit Sharma made 79. Earlier, Prasidh Krishna claimed a career-best 5 for 23 as India cruised to victory and completed the clean sweep.
Shubman Gill
Gill was the outstanding performer of the series and its undisputed leader. He struck an unbeaten 84 in the first ODI and followed it with a magnificent 154 in the second ODI, earning widespread praise for his captaincy and batting consistency. His leadership guided India to a commanding series win in his first ODI series as captain.
Rohit Sharma
The senior opener provided explosive starts throughout the series. He scored 16 in the first ODI, a brisk 48 in the second and an authoritative 79 in the series finale, setting the tone for India's aggressive approach.
Yashasvi Jaiswal
Jaiswal announced himself as a major ODI force. After getting opportunities at the top of the order, he crowned the series with a brilliant unbeaten 110 in Chennai, becoming the fastest Indian to score two ODI centuries.
Ishan Kishan
The wicketkeeper-batter was among the biggest positives for India. He scored a quick 34 in the opening ODI before blasting 125 from just 79 balls in Lucknow, sharing a match-winning partnership with Gill.
KL Rahul
Rahul played the role of finisher and stabiliser to perfection. His unbeaten 39 in the first ODI helped complete the chase comfortably, while his wicketkeeping remained tidy throughout the series.
Shreyas Iyer
Iyer's contributions were modest but useful. He scored 12 in the first ODI and chipped in with important middle-order runs whenever required, helping maintain momentum during India's dominant batting displays.
Nitish Kumar Reddy
Though his opportunities were limited, Nitish impressed the team management with his all-round potential. India view him as a long-term seam-bowling all-rounder, and the series provided valuable international exposure.

Sundar contributed effectively as a spinning all-rounder. His disciplined bowling and control in the middle overs helped India keep Afghanistan's scoring rate in check, while he also chipped in with a wicket in the second ODI.
Harsh Dubey
The young left-arm spinner gained useful international experience. Though not heavily involved in the wickets column, he remained part of India's rotation strategy and benefited from exposure at the highest level.
Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep emerged as India's most effective seamer after Prasidh. His three-wicket haul in the second ODI helped dismantle Afghanistan's middle order and underlined his growing value in the 50-over format.
