The opening day of the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy will be remembered as one of the wildest batting displays in List A cricket history.
Domestic bowlers were left gasping as multiple batters turned matches on their heads with extraordinary centuries — but none more so than Bihar captain Sakibul Gani, who rewrote the record books.
Sakibul Gani: Fastest List A century by an Indian (32 Balls)
In the Plate Group clash between Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh at the JSCA Oval in Ranchi, Sakibul Gani delivered a stunning display of power hitting. After his teammate Vaibhav Suryavanshi had already bludgeoned the opposition attack, Gani walked in and smashed a century in just 32 balls — the fastest List A hundred ever by an Indian batter.
Gani’s assault included towering sixes and crisp boundaries, finishing unbeaten on 128 off 40 balls as Bihar went on to post a massive 574/6, which became the highest team total in List A cricket history.
This century not only set a new Indian benchmark but stood among the quickest in the global List A record books, surpassed only by a handful of deliveries in the international domestic game. Bihar beat Arunachal Pradesh by 397 runs.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s explosive 190 (36-ball century)
Earlier in the very same innings, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi had already turned heads. The teenage prodigy walked in and unleashed a blistering knock, reaching his hundred in just 36 balls — making him one of the fastest centurions in List A history and the youngest ever to do so.
Suryavanshi didn’t stop at his century — he went on to score a massive 190 off 84 balls, peppered with a flurry of boundaries and sixes. His remarkable innings laid the groundwork for Bihar’s record total.
Ishan Kishan’s 33-ball century for Jharkhand
The carnage wasn’t limited to Ranchi. In another Vijay Hazare Trophy fixture on the same day, Jharkhand’s Ishan Kishan brought up his hundred off just 33 balls against Karnataka in Ahmedabad — becoming the second-fastest List A century by an Indian on the day, narrowly missing Gani’s mark.
Kishan’s explosive hundred capped an emphatic team performance and further underscored the batting blitz that defined the day.
Veterans Shine: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma
Alongside these breathtaking displays, two of India’s most iconic batsmen also produced commanding centuries on December 24:
Virat Kohli, returning to domestic cricket with Delhi, played a masterful innings — his century anchoring a successful chase and showcasing the class that has defined his international career. Delhi beat Andhra by four wickets.
Rohit Sharma, representing Mumbai, blasted a powerful hundred against Sikkim, reminding fans of his enduring ability to dominate bowling attacks across formats. Mumbai beat Sikkim by eight wickets.
These centuries by Kohli and Sharma lent further star power to a day already overflowing with remarkable batting feats.
