New Delhi: The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has approved fast bowler Mohammed Siraj as a replacement for Harshit Rana in the India squad after the latter was ruled out due to injury.
"The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has approved Mohammad Siraj as a replacement for Harshit Rana in the India squad," said a statement from International Cricket Council (ICC).
Siraj, who has represented India in 45 Tests, 50 ODIs and 16 T20Is, comes into the squad after Rana sustained an injury to his right knee during a warm-up match against South Africa in Navi Mumbai on February 4, 2026.
"Team India pacer Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after sustaining a knee injury during the warm-up match against South Africa in Navi Mumbai on February 4th 2026," said a statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
As per tournament regulations, any replacement to a squad must receive clearance from the Event Technical Committee before being officially added. Following the incident, Rana underwent consultations with a specialist and subsequent medical scans, after which the BCCI medical team declared him unfit to take part in the tournament.
The Indian team management has wished the young pacer a speedy recovery as he begins his rehabilitation process through a statement. Siraj will now join the squad as Rana’s replacement ahead of the marquee ICC event.
