Six franchises among men and four among women are going to compete in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) T20 league that is expected to get underway by August 20, a top office-bearer of the Capital’s cricket association has confirmed.
“We will most probably have auction for the franchises by around July 20 and it will soon be followed by auction of the players,” Rajan Manchanda, Joint Secretary of DDCA, told www.thedelhijunction.com.
“We are hoping to start the league by August 20,” he added.
Manchanda, who is also the secretary of the iconic Roshanara Club, said that they are planning to hold the matches at the Ferozeshah Kotla grounds of Arun Jaitley Stadium, Yamuna Sports Complex and the MAK Pataudi Sports Complex at Jamia Millia Islamia.
“We are still in the planning mode but these are the three grounds that will most likely host the matches,” he added.
All the three grounds are floodlit and have held night games at different levels in the past.
The DDCA managing committee approved the tournament on July 1 after it got the nod from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The players in the fray will be Delhi’s Ranji Trophy, List A and T20 players besides state’s age-group cricketers as well as some club cricketers.
Rohan Jaitley, the DDCA President, had on Thursday announced the league as an opportunity for local cricketers during the presentation ceremony of the annual DDCA Hot Weather Cricket Tournament.
“We have further opportunity for you all to play at a good level.”
It should be noted that Delhi at the moment hosts the East Delhi Premier League (EDPL) which was the brainchild of former India skipper Gautam Gambhir.
However, the new league will be the product of DDCA and on the lines of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) and the now defunct Karnataka and Mumbai leagues.
