Delhi spin bowlers’ tight spells helped them restrict Baroda to 211, a total that proved very little for the in-form batting line-up led by captain Tanisha Singh whose 83 took the team to a resounding seven-wicket in Guwahati and a place in the quarterfinals of the BCCI Women’s Under-23 One-Day Trophy.

Baroda were bowled out for 211 in 49.1 overs after losing a position of strength. They had been 123/1 after 30 overs with opener Messvi Pokar (63) and Atoshi Banerjee (74) adding 109 runs for the second wicket.

Ekta Bhadana (3/41), Bharti Rawal (2/43) and Madhu (2/24) were the pick of the bowlers. Skipper Tanisha bowled a tight spell (1/27 in 10 overs). Parunika Sisodia, the left-arm spinner who recently returned from Women’s Premier League duties and was playing the first match of this tournament, ended with 0/35 in 10.

Delhi weren’t bothered at all, despite losing Upasana Yadav early for just 11. They were 22 in the seventh over at that stage.

However, No. 3 Tanisha (83 off 83) joined opener Pragya Rawat (63 off 81) to put the team on path to victory. The duo added 126 for the second wicket in just under 22 overs.

Shweta Sehrawat scored 43 not out off 39 balls (6x4s, 1x6) and added 56 for the third wicket with Tanisha to close in on Baroda total. By the time Delhi lost their third wicket in the form of Tanisha in the 38th over, with the score on 204, they were within striking distance of the total and reached the total in the 40th over.

Delhi now face Maharashtra in the quarterfinals on Friday in Guwahati.
