New Delhi: Voting for the byelections in 12 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) wards came to an end on Sunday evening.
The voting took place at 580 booths spread over 143 polling stations between 7.30 am and 5.30 pm.
Following Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) overwhelming victory in the February assembly elections, which saw the party unseat the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and return to power for the first time in 27 years, this poll is being widely monitored as a measure of public feeling.
The bypolls are marked by strong competition between the BJP and AAP, as both parties aim to expand their influence in the civic governance of the Capital.
A total of 51 candidates, including 26 women, are participating in the elections. The BJP has nominated the most women candidates, totalling eight, while AAP has put forward six and Congress has fielded five candidates. Congress is also attempting to gain a foothold, although the main contest is between BJP and AAP.
The bypolls were conducted in the following wards: Mundka, Shalimar Bagh-B, Ashok Vihar, Chandni Chowk, Chandni Mahal, Dwarka-B, Dichaon Kalan, Naraina, Sangam Vihar-A, Dakshin Puri, Greater Kailash, and Vinod Nagar.
The candidates for the three main parties from the 12 wards can be checked here.
