West Bengal emerged as the most successful state on Day 1 of the 4th National Finswimming Championship, winning 19 gold, 13 silver and 10 bronze medals at the Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool Complex at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on Friday.

Finswimming is a variant of swimming which involves players wearing fins and snorkels to swim in the pool.

Host Delhi returned with two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.

As many as four meet records were created in the competition with Dhruv Jayeshbhai Tank of Gujarat creating the first record of the day in Junior ‘B’ Boys 400 metres bi-fins after clocking 04:08.36.

Nicolas Mili of Delhi clocked 1:57.33 in Junior ‘C’ Boys 200 metres bi-fins event for the second new meet record of the day.

Pravesh Mathurabashimayu of Manipur clocked 1:57.59 for a meet record in Junior ‘D’ Boys 200 metres bi-fins.

The last meet record of the day was created by Ira Rawat of Uttarakhand. She clocked 2:09.27 in Junior ‘D’ Girls 200 metres bi-fins event.

Karnataka got three gold, three silver, and three bronze medals.

Uttarakhand won two gold and two bronze medals.

Haryana got one gold, five silver and one bronze medal.

The tournament ends on Sunday.
