Thanks to Tanisha Singh’s all-round performance, the Delhi women’s team coasted to a six-wicket win over Uttarakhand in the pre-quarterfinal of the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy to set up a last-eight clash with Mumbai in Rajkot on December 24.

Delhi had been set a target of 275 in 50 overs after Uttarakhand had ended their innings at 274/8.

“Coach Anju Jain told us to play for the team, not as individuals. It was a flat pitch. We decided we just have to play with a positive approach (khul ke khelna hai),” said Tanisha from Rajkot.

The right-handed batter, who also bowls off-spin, hit 17 fours in her 94-ball 116 and was dominant with her cut and sweep shots.

“I played all around the pitch but relied a lot on cuts and sweeps,” added the player who trains at the RP Academy in Gargi College.

The 21-year-old, who is pursuing English (Honours) from Amity University, also picked three wickets with her off-spin bowling.

At a time when Uttarakhand captain and India international Ekta Bisht (27 off 16) had built a 50-run partnership with centurion Neelam Kashyap (118), taking the team from 177/3 to 227, she came into play to restrict Uttarakhand. She first removed Ekta with the team score on 227 and 10 runs later got rid of Neelam to put brakes on the scoring. She also got the wicket of the dangerous-looking Prema (21 off 15).

Opener Pragya Rawat scored 51 off 83 balls while Ayushi Soni scored 67 off 80 balls.

Tanisha, who has been playing for Delhi senior team for the past two years, had already scored a ton earlier in the tournament. This is her third career ton in One-Dayers for Delhi seniors.
