Central Delhi Kings sealed their spot in the play-offs after beating Purani Dilli-6 by 104 runs under Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in a Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium here on Monday night.

After the afternoon match was abandoned due to rain, and the probability of this match too hanging on the nature again, it finally started though not before a delay due to wet outfield.  It was reduced to an 18-over affair with the mandatory powerplay of 5.2 overs.

Central Delhi, after having lost their last two matches that delayed their entry to the play-offs, left no holes uncovered with a scintillating performance where they excelled in all the three departments and gave no breathing space to Purani Dilli-6, who were already at the bottom of the table. Purani Dilli won the toss and opted to bowl as they looked to salvage some pride and end the tournament on a high. Central Delhi, who have stumbled in the last two games, started the innings with a bang scoring 56 in the powerplay losing Kaushal Suman early.

Yash Dhull showed his consistent self, scoring yet another half-century (53 with the help of 5 boundaries and two sixes). He formed crucial partnerships with Yugal Saini and Jonty Sidhu who scored 28 each. The innings was given a finish better than the start with Aryan Rana scoring unbeaten 42 off just 14 balls with four hits out of the park and three beyond to the boundary to end the innings at 197 from their stipulated 18 overs.

Rajneesh Dadar, who is the highest wicket-taker in the tournament, took three wickets for Purani Dilli but was expensive giving away 40 runs off his four overs. There was not much to show for other bowlers as they were unable to contain the Kings batsmen.

If their bowlers were found to be off radar, their batsmen fared even worse as they just could not get off to a start. They could not form any partnership and in order to chase down the target threw away wickets. No batsman seemed willing to stay at the wicket as they were bundled out for 69 with the highest score coming from the bat of Pranav Pant, who scored 24.

There was a scare with rain resurfacing but by that time the result was going only one way. After a short delay the match restarted, and it looked like a formality for the Central Delhi bowlers who wrapped up what will go down as one of the most dominant performances.

The wickets were shared among bowlers as every bowler atleast registered a wicket against their name with Simarjeet Singh and Jonty Sidhu standing out with similar bowling figures taking two wickets giving away six runs. Central Delhi, with hiccups in their last two games, gave a dominant performance and showed why they were tipped to be the favourites at the start, possessing one of the strongest squads. Central Delhi have now become one of the two teams to qualify with East Delhi already qualified.
